Haydn: Missa Sancti Nicolai
Elgar: 3 songs from the Bavarian Highlands Rutter: The Sprig of Thyme The St Nicolas Mass, one of Haydn’s most delightful settings, in which we will be joined by our orchestra The Bellot Ensemble, who accompanied us for our very successful performance of Handel's Messiah in December 2025. Bellot Ensemble is a vibrant period instrument group celebrated for energetic performances and a distinctive approach to 17th-century repertoire. Rooted in historical performance practice, the ensemble blends detailed research with spontaneity, particularly through written divisions and the expressive interpretation of early texts. Their work often brings together instrumental and vocal forces, with regular collaborations involving consorts, choirs, and opera companies.
Elgar’s three songs or dances from the Bavarian Highlands complete the first half. John Rutter’s The sprig of thyme is a setting of 11 folksongs for choir and orchestra – a fresh and lovely highlight of our Summer concert.
