Charity Partners

Brighton Orpheus Choir has established partnerships with three local charities. At each of our concerts we will collect for one of these charities. In addition, we sing carols at Brighton Station every Christmas and also collect for one of these charities.

The Clock Tower Sanctuary is the only drop-in day centre in Brighton & Hove for 16-to-25 year olds who are experiencing homelessness,
helping young people move from crisis to stability. Their doors are open five days a week to provide a safe space, practical and emotional support, a hot lunch, shower and laundry facilities, daily activities and a place to do the day to-day things that can be difficult without a place to call home.

They don't receive any statutory funding and running costs are met by donations from generous people in the community - businesses, community groups, schools and local and national Trusts & Foundations.

Martin, 20 (he/him) says ‘Without this place, I’d probably be in jail or dead. It’s that simple.

This place has actually saved me, like proper saved me.’ Read his full story here

Food and Friendship is a long-established charity aimed at tackling loneliness and social isolation amongst older people and adults with learning disabilities. We do this through biweekly lunch clubs for around 120 people who have reduced social networks due to bereavement, restricted mobility, health conditions such as dementia, sensory impairments and learning disabilities. Based at Hove Methodist Church, our 50 volunteers prepare meals using surplus food which helps to reduce food waste. We hire three buses to collect the most isolated guests who are unable to leave their homes independently. Some of our guests only have brief encounters with carers all week so our lunch clubs provide a vital social lifeline that helps people feel connected to their community and improves mental wellbeing.

“Too many older people live and eat alone in the city, having lost friends and loved ones. Our lunch clubs are like a large family for people who don’t have one where they can enjoy a healthy home-cooked meal and come together to share friendship and laughter. They are a place to feel welcomed and valued, to learn something, to receive support and to help build the resilience to get through another week alone”  Caroline Co-ordinator

Martlets is a local charity, providing essential services to people affected by life-limiting illness in Brighton and Hove, and surrounding areas. Our expert teams provide the very best hospice care and support, helping patients and their loved ones live life to the full during the precious time they have together. From terminal cancer and end-stage heart disease to neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and motor neurone disease, we’re here when you need us most.

Most people receive care from us in their own homes. Others with more complex needs to spend their final days or weeks on our inpatient wards, or to join us for periods of symptom management or respite care. Outpatients visit our hospice for pain relief, physiotherapy, counselling, complementary therapies and social activities. Our care also extends to families, who are offered ongoing bereavement support as well as opportunities to come together and celebrate the lives of their loved ones at remembrance events.

The exceptional care Martlets provides is free thanks to the support of local people, businesses and trusts. It costs £11 million a year to keep Martlets caring – a government grant provides 24% of our income, but we rely on the community for the majority of our funding. You can show your support by fundraising, volunteering, or leaving us a gift in your Will.'
