Description: | ![]() We will be performing the beautiful Ein Deutsches Requiem by Johannes Brahms and two motets by Felix Mendelssohn - Psalm 43 and Verleih uns frieden. Brahms composed his Requiem between 1865 and 1868 and it is believed to have been inspired by the death of his mother and possibly the death of Robert Schumann. Ein Deutsches Requiem focuses on the living, with a theme of comfort in grief expressed in a humanist way. Joining us will be the magnificent baritone Andrew Davies who last sang with us at our perfomance of Purcell's The Fairy Queen, in July 2023 and renowned soprano Gillian Ramm. We will be accompanied by Howard Beach and Nicola Grunberg at the piano. This piano duet accompaniment is the perfect compliment to a choir of the size of Brighton Orpheus. The two motets which you will hear by Mendelssohn are beautiful and an absolute pleasure to sing. The concert will last approximately 90 minutes. There will be an interval of 25 minutes. Wine, soft drinks and homemade cakes will be available to purchase before the concert and during the interval. Disabled access is via the entrance in Knoyle Rd. We look forward to welcoming you to the concert. |
