    Description: FAURE'S REQUIEM & DVORAK'S MASS IN D
Gabriel Faure's Requiem is the best known and loved of his works. It is a truly beautiful composition with a focus on eternal rest and consolation. It is a work in seven movements and the choir will be accompanied by organist and Director of Music at All Saints, David Stevens. The Hill Pipe Organ at All Saints is said to be one of the finest pipe organs in the south east of England.
Faure said of his Requiem "Everything I managed to entertain by way of religious illusion I put into my Requiem, which moreover is dominated from beginning to end by a very human feeling of faith in eternal rest".

In addition to Faure's Requiem Brighton Orpheus will also be performing Antonin Dvorak's Mass in D major, again accompanied by the organ, for which it was originally composed in 1887. The work is structured as a mass with occasional lines for soloists. It is a wonderfully expressive melodic work and uses folk-song like tunes and rich harmonies. The mass has been described as "pure Dvorak" and can be said to reflect his humble faith and his joy in life and nature.

We are very pleased to be joined by the following professional soloists:
     Soprano - Shona Knight
     Mezzo - Briony Lambert
     Tenor - Kristian Thorkildsen
     Baritone - Stephen Charlesworth
