adaptation of Shakespeare's Midsummer Nights Dream and was first performed
in 1692\,  Purcell composed The Fairy Queen three years before he died
at the age of 35. Following his death\, the score was lost and only redisc
overed early in the twentieth century.\n\nPurcell composed short masques w
hich are related to the original play metaphorically\, rather than literal
ly. The Fairy Queen ends with a masque featuring Hymen\, the God of Marria
ge\, and is believed to have been composed for the fifteenth wedding anniv
ersary of William III and Mary II.\n\nThe concert will take place at St Ma
ry's Church Kemp Town\, situated in a vibrant and diverse part of the city
. The church has a wonderful acoustic making it particularly good for musi
cal performances.\n\nAs a charity ourselves we endeavour to support other
charities when we can. For our retiring collection at this concert we will
be supporting Moulsecoomb Forest Garden and Wildlife Project.\n https://
