A new production for 2009. Purcell’s joyous response to A
Midsummer Night’s Dream, incorporates of Shakespeare’s text into a fascinating
carnival of music, theatre and dance. It becomes a series of
fantastical masques, culminating in a lavish wedding ceremony. The original production
called for such staggering scenic effects that the cost of the sets and costumes almost
bankrupted Purcell's theatre. Sung in English with supertitles. |

Women
Ballads, Hymns and Lullabies
- traditional songs from Norway and England
the voices of Oslo's Trio Mediæval have won audiences around the
world with their performances and recordings of a diverse polyphonic repertoire, featuring
mediæval music from England and France, contemporary works written specifically for the
ensemble, and traditional Norwegian ballads and songs.
Vivaldi's Women is a unique all-female choir and orchestra inspired by
the music and history of the famous 18th-century Foundling Hospital in Venice - the Ospedale

Quadrophenia
set in London and Brighton at the height of the Mod era, Quadrophenia
is told through the eyes of Jimmy, a hedonistic style-conscious teenager searching for a
place to belong and a girl to love. Misunderstood by his parents and stuck in a dead-end

Opera Franz Lehár The Merry Widow
Hanna Glawari, the Merry Widow, is Pontevedro’s wealthiest citizen,
hoping that playboy Count Danilo will propose to her. But if she is lured away by some
Frenchman, she’ll take all her lovely money with her, causing a financial meltdown in
the poverty-stricken Grand Duchy of Pontevedro. The flirtations and assignations are
swept along by Lehar’s magical score - his first major success in operetta includes the
famous Vilja song, the Merry Widow Waltz and more. |
