the Neuer Chor from Dresden was founded in 1957. This concert focusses on themes of life, living and death, using a thematic rather than a chronological approach.   Composers heard in the programme will be Dowland, Schütz, Bach, Distler, Rheinberger, Mendelssohn, Schumann, Brahms, Richard Strauss, Widor, Pleyel and Barth.

a revival of the 1998 Glyndebourne on Tour production, directed by Richard Jones, conducted by Richard Farnes.   Sung in English.

Set in the departure lounge of an airport, Flight tells the story of a group of passengers whose plane has been delayed by an electric storm. They are forced to pause, reflect on their lives and  relationships, finding themselves bound together by the universal concerns of love and sexuality, birth and death.

Flight had its world premiere in 1998 with Glyndebourne on Tour and has since enjoyed international success in Europe and the USA.

Katie Melua
born in Georgia in the former USSR (red wine, Stalin, Shevardnadze) in 1984, Katie Melua lived in Moscow when she was 3 or 4.  She then spent most of her childhood back in Georgia in the seaside town of Batumi. When she was 9, her father got a job as a heart surgeon in Belfast, so her family moved there. She started writing songs two years ago and says her influences have been Queen, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Eva Cassidy, Irish folk music and Indian music.
