Mystery and intrigue surrounds this final work of Mozart. Struggling with poverty and visited by an anonymous messenger commissioning him to write a Requiem Mass for the Dead, conjecture alone can suppose the tormented mind of the composer destined to die before the work’s completion. With its terrifying Dies Irae, brilliantly constructed Kyrie double fugue and agonisingly beautiful throbbing Lacrimosa, it remains one of the most moving works of the choral repertoire.
The programme also features Haydn’s fiery Insanae et Vanae Curae, the 13 year old Schubert’s Magnificat and Sanctus from his German Mass, as well as Mozart’s gently profound Ave Verum.
Tickets will be available on the door from 7pm.
