John Rutter is well-known both for his compositions as an editor of choral music. His settings of Christmas carols are familiar to everyone. From 1975-9 he was Director of Music at Clare College, and in 1981 formed the Cambridge Singers, a professional chamber choir which is associated with many recordings of his works.

He now divides his time between composition and conducting. His choral works are frequently performed in Europe, the USA, and Australasia. In 2003 his Mass of the Children, a major work using both an adult and a children’s choir, was premièred in Carnegie Hall, New York.

This year John Rutter celebrates his 60th birthday.
